The ten-step routine is not a skincare concept. It's a retail strategy. The premise is that each additional step represents additional care — that more steps means a more attentive relationship with the skin. This is false, and most people who follow such routines already know it.
The category invented a problem and then sold the solution in ten parts. Stripped skin needs repairing. Repaired skin needs protecting. Protected skin needs brightening. Brightened skin needs correcting. And so on, in a loop that has no natural end point because it was never designed to reach one. The skin becomes a project. The routine becomes a source of anxiety rather than ease.

What the skin actually needs
Healthy skin has its own intelligence. It produces sebum, maintains its own microbiome, regulates moisture through the lipid barrier, and — when left broadly in peace — manages most of what we apply multiple steps to fix. The damage is often introduced by the routine itself: over-cleansing, over-exfoliating, disrupting the pH, stripping and then attempting to restore in separate steps what was never broken to begin with.
A discipline of less is not a minimalist aesthetic, though it may look like one. It is a position based on the observation that the skin does better with less interference, not more. One cleanser, one note, one finish. What is left is a sequence — not a routine — and the difference matters.
On the word "routine"
A routine is something you do without thinking. A sequence is something you move through with intention. The distinction is small but it reframes the relationship with the products entirely. In a routine, you reach for things because they're there. In a sequence, each step has a role and a position. You enter it knowing why.

We're not going to tell you to stop using everything you currently use.
